ART AND DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
At St Anthony's we have adopted the AccessArt Primary Curriculum. The curriculum is designed around the idea that art is far more than a series of technical skills. The holistic approach of the curriculum nurtures creative thinking skills and helps ensure our pupils learn through art, as well as about art. By the time pupils leave St. Anthony’s we want them to feel as if they have found an area of the visual arts that is relevant and engaging to them – that might be through drawing, or making, or designing, or talking about art.
Our Design and Technology curriculum is practical. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ wants, needs and values. They have the opportunity to evaluate their products. Through our curriculum we aim for our pupils to acquire a broad range of subject related skills and knowledge whilst drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
What our pupils have to say about Art and Design at St Anthony's:
" My favourite part was when we did printing with our hands and feet on the big paper and everyone did it together. We then all got part of the big paper to add our own drawings and everyone's looked really good" Jemimah - Year 1
"In Art it doesn't matter what it looks like, people won't judge you and everyone's is different. It doesn't matter if you can or can't draw" Xavier - Year 3
"I like designing and then looking back to see what worked and what could be better for next time" Caitlin - Year 4
"I loved it when we went to the Royal Academy of Arts. The artists were really interesting and we created a whole class art project to bring back to school" - Year 6 pupil.
