Music
At St Anthony's music is a very valuable part of our school curriculum and a subject that is greatly enjoyed by many. Children have opportunities to learn to play an instrument and participate in the central role it plays in our celebration of the Liturgical Year and our Catholic way of life.
Children engage in a high-quality Music curriculum using the National Curriculum. During these discrete Music sessions, children enjoy opportunities to control sounds through singing, playing, rehearsing and performing with others.
In EYFS, music is incorporated into daily routines by the class adults and in Key Stage 1 & 2 children have weekly music session delivered by a specialist Music teacher from Southwark Music Services.
They develop their own musical ideas through improvising, composing and appraising music by analysing, evaluating and discussing their responses to it.
We offer instrumental lessons in guitar, piano, trumpet, violin and music theory. Peripatetic teachers work with small groups or individual lessons, with regular recitals and showcases.
At the end of the year, we hold a summer festival where the children perform together in front of family, friends and the local community.
